8 July 10 Be Redlands Next Talented Vocal Export

Some of Australia’s most amazing singers have cut their teeth at this exciting local competition. They can now be seen on world stages, Australian Idol and on Australian radio. We first had the pleasure of witnessing their talent at The Redfest Vocal Contest hosted by the Redlands Sporting Club and now celebrating its seventh year. Just to name drop a few, previous winners include Mirusia who now travels with world with Andre Rieu, Megan Washington from popular contemporary band Washington, and Lauren Street – Idol Semi-finalist 2009. As with every other year, the incredible talent in the Redlands will again be showcased during this competition and be a highlight for all spectators.

Heats will be held in the main lounge of the Redlands Sporting Club and members, guests and bona fide visitors are all invited to come and cheer on the contestants. Heats are separated into junior (12 years & under), intermediate (13-16years) and senior (17+ years) categories with the competition beginning 2 August for Juniors, 9 & 16 August for Intermediates and 23 August for Seniors. The exciting semi-finals will be part of the amazing program at RedFest on Saturday, 4 September with our six most talented finalists competing for the ultimate prize on Sunday, 5 September 2010.

“The level of enthusiasm of the contestants is a testament to the Club’s commitment to support the emerging talent within the Redlands community and community organisations such as RedFest.” said Doreen Thomas, marketing manager of the Redland Sporting Club. The total prize pool of over $1500 for the winners and runner-ups is seen as a reward rather than an incentive to participate as entry forms flood in each year.

Bruce Smith, Festival President reiterated, “This is a great opportunity to promote our youth in Redlands and to encourage them to become a part of our largest iconic event in Redland City.” Our local talents will join RedFest’s incredible line up of artists including Glenn Shorrock, Daryl Braithwaite, John Schumann, Mr Percival, Darryl Cotton, Jim Keays and Russell Morris at RedFest on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of September at Cleveland Showgrounds.
